Mercedes-Benz GLB Lemon Law

Talk to a Mercedes-Benz lemon law attorney — your Mercedes-Benz GLB may qualify for a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement.

If your Mercedes-Benz GLB's MBUX screen has gone black, rebooted on its own, or knocked out the rearview camera, you're seeing a known defect. If the dealer can't permanently fix it — or other electrical faults keep returning — your GLB may qualify as a California lemon.

The Defect

The GLB MBUX and electrical system problems

The GLB's signature defect involves its MBUX multimedia system. Mercedes recalled certain 2019–2021 GLB-Class vehicles because a software fault could cause the central display to stay black or repeatedly reboot after startup, which can prevent the rearview camera image from appearing. That failure violates the federal rear-visibility safety standard (FMVSS 111) because the driver loses the backup-camera view exactly when reversing.

Electrical faults extend well beyond the screen. The GLB's most frequently reported trouble areas are the electrical system, body and trim, and safety systems. Owners describe glitchy infotainment, connectivity dropouts, and warning lights, and some model years were recalled for related concerns — including an Electronic Stability Program unit that could be damaged and disable the ABS and stability control, and water intrusion through the wheel-well area that can reach electrical components in the front footwells.

Because MBUX and the GLB's driver-assist features share the same electronic architecture, a single underlying fault can produce a cascade of symptoms that dealers struggle to reproduce and repair. When the same defect returns after multiple attempts, or your GLB spends an unreasonable time in the shop, California's Lemon Law may entitle you to a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement.

Known Issues

Commonly Reported Mercedes-Benz GLB Problems

MBUX display staying black or rebooting, taking out the rearview camera
Infotainment glitches, connectivity dropouts, and recurring warning lights
Electronic Stability Program faults that can disable ABS and stability control
Water intrusion at the wheel wells reaching front-footwell electrical parts
Electrical faults that reappear after a dealer repair or software update

Not every Mercedes-Benz GLB is affected. Any substantial, warranty-covered defect that can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts — or that keeps your vehicle out of service — may support a claim.

Your Rights

Is Your Mercedes-Benz GLB a Lemon?

A recall is not automatically a lemon — it's the manufacturer acknowledging a defect and offering a free repair. California's Lemon Law (the Song-Beverly Act) comes into play when a substantial defect can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts, or when your GLB has been out of service for 30 or more cumulative days.

If your Mercedes-Benz GLB qualifies, you may be entitled to a buyback (a refund of what you've paid, minus a mileage offset), a replacement vehicle, or a cash-and-keep settlement — and Mercedes-Benz pays your attorney fees on a successful claim, so pursuing your case costs you nothing out of pocket.

Common Questions

Mercedes-Benz GLB Lemon Law FAQs

Is the GLB's MBUX screen problem covered by California's Lemon Law?

It can be. The black-screen and reboot defect that disables the rearview camera was recalled, but a recall alone isn't a lemon. If the software update doesn't hold, the problem keeps returning, or your GLB is out of service for an extended time, you may be owed a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement — with Mercedes-Benz paying your attorney fees.

My backup camera goes dark when the screen reboots — is that a safety defect?

Yes. Losing the rearview camera image while reversing is a safety concern and the reason for the federal recall. California treats safety defects seriously, and they can require fewer failed repair attempts to qualify. Keep your repair records and get a free case review.

How much does a GLB lemon law case cost me?

Nothing out of pocket. Under California's Lemon Law, Mercedes-Benz pays your attorney fees on a successful claim, so you can pursue a buyback or replacement without paying upfront.
