California Lemon Law
Cadillac Lemon Law Attorney
Speak with a California Cadillac lemon lawyer about a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement.
Cadillac drivers often report infotainment and transmission troubles. If your Cadillac has a warranty defect the dealer can't repair after reasonable attempts, California's Lemon Law may entitle you to a refund, replacement, or settlement.
Commonly Reported Cadillac Defects
These are commonly reported issue categories — not every Cadillac is affected. Any substantial, warranty-covered defect that can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts may support a claim.
Is My Cadillac a Lemon?
In plain terms: your Cadillac is a lemon if it has a substantial defect covered by the warranty that General Motors LLC can't fix after a reasonable number of attempts — or if it's been out of service for 30 or more cumulative days. If that sounds like your vehicle, you may be owed a buyback, a replacement, or a cash settlement, and Cadillac pays the legal fees.
Because General Motors LLC opted into California’s AB 1755 procedures, the filing window on a Cadillac claim is shorter than most owners realize: generally one year from your warranty’s expiration, and no later than six years from the vehicle’s original delivery date. That is materially tighter than the four-year rule that applies to manufacturers who did not opt in — and several competing firms still publish the four-year figure for Cadillac. If your warranty has lapsed or is close to it, the clock is the first thing to check, not the last.
A Cadillac claim is a claim against General Motors LLC — GM issued the warranty, and GM pays. That matters because Cadillac shares its engines, transmissions and electronics with Chevrolet and GMC. When an Escalade develops a 6.2L V8 problem, it is the same defect GM is fighting on a Silverado and a Yukon, and we already know how GM has handled it.
Under the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, your Cadillac may qualify if a substantial, warranty-covered defect survives a reasonable number of repair attempts, or if the vehicle has been out of service for 30 or more cumulative days. In a six-figure Escalade, the “substantial” test is rarely the hard part — you did not pay Escalade money for a vehicle that spends its life on a lift.
If any of that sounds like your vehicle, talk to a Cadillac lemon lawyer before you agree to another repair attempt. Our Cadillac lemon law attorneys have brought this claim against General Motors LLC before, and we will tell you honestly in the first call whether yours is worth bringing.

| Defect category | Commonly reported issues |
|---|---|
| Engine (6.2L V8) | GM recalled roughly 600,000 Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles over 6.2L V8 engine failure — the engine in the Escalade. Knocking, loss of power and sudden failure. |
| Wheels & hubs | The 2025 Escalade is subject to a wheel hub recall (26V304). GM has separately recalled 43,000-plus SUVs over wheel lockups. |
| Lyriq EV propulsion & suspension | The 2025 Lyriq carries recalls covering the electrical propulsion system (25V483), front suspension (25V232) and seat assembly (25V193) — charging failures, drive-power loss and structural defects on Cadillac’s flagship EV. |
| Electrical & infotainment | Screen blackouts, backup-camera failures and battery drain — the 2025 XT5 is subject to an electrical-system recall (24V459). |
| Transmission | 8- and 10-speed shudder, harsh shifts and torque-converter complaints across the Escalade and XT-series. |

Not every Cadillac is affected. Enter your VIN in NHTSA's free federal database to see the open recalls, complaints and investigations on your exact vehicle. It takes about thirty seconds, and it is the same record we would pull for your case.
Look up your VIN at NHTSA.govA recall is not automatically a lemon — and a defect does not have to be recalled to support a claim. Any substantial, warranty-covered defect that can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts may qualify.

How California's Lemon Law Works for Your Cadillac
California's Lemon Law (the Song-Beverly Act) protects you when a new, leased, or certified pre-owned Cadillac has a substantial defect that the manufacturer or dealer can't repair after a reasonable number of attempts — or when it's been out of service for 30 or more cumulative days.
If your vehicle qualifies, you may be entitled to a buyback (a refund of what you've paid, minus a mileage offset), a replacement vehicle, or a cash-and-keep settlement. Best of all, Cadillac is required to pay your attorney fees on a successful claim — so pursuing your case costs you nothing out of pocket.

Cadillac is one of the manufacturers that has opted into California's AB 1755 procedures, which means a shorter filing deadline can apply to your claim — generally within one year of your warranty's expiration, and no later than six years from the vehicle's original delivery date. If your Cadillac keeps failing, acting promptly protects your rights.

How long do I have to file a Cadillac lemon law claim?
Less time than you may think. General Motors opted into California’s AB 1755 procedures, so the deadline is generally one year from your warranty’s expiration and no later than six years from the original delivery date — not the four years that applies to non-opted-in manufacturers. Some firms still publish four years for GM. That is wrong, and relying on it can cost you the claim.
My Escalade’s 6.2L V8 failed. Do I have a case?
Very possibly a strong one. GM recalled roughly 600,000 Cadillac, Chevy and GMC vehicles over 6.2L V8 engine failure. An engine that fails or gets replaced under warranty is about as substantial a defect as exists — and if the repair does not hold, or you wait months for an engine, that is the profile of a buyback.
My Lyriq keeps having charging and software problems. Is that enough?
An EV that cannot reliably charge or drive is an EV you cannot use. The 2025 Lyriq is subject to a propulsion-system recall, and Cadillac’s EV launch has been difficult. If the problem persists after repair attempts, or the car sits waiting on parts, you may have a claim.
Who do I sue — Cadillac or GM?
General Motors LLC. GM issued the warranty and GM pays the buyback, the settlement, and your attorney fees.
Can I recover more than the purchase price?
If GM willfully refused a valid buyback, California allows a civil penalty of up to two times your actual damages on top of the refund. We pursue it where the record supports it.
