Because General Motors LLC opted into California’s AB 1755 procedures, the filing window on a Chevrolet claim is shorter than most owners realize: generally one year from your warranty’s expiration, and no later than six years from the vehicle’s original delivery date. That is materially tighter than the four-year rule that applies to manufacturers who did not opt in — and several competing firms still publish the four-year figure for Chevrolet. If your warranty has lapsed or is close to it, the clock is the first thing to check, not the last.
A Chevrolet claim is a claim against General Motors LLC. Chevrolet is GM’s volume brand, which cuts both ways: the defects are well documented because so many people have them, and GM has a well-worn playbook for pushing owners toward another repair attempt instead of a buyback.
Your Chevrolet may qualify under the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act if a substantial, warranty-covered defect cannot be repaired after a reasonable number of attempts, or if the vehicle has been out of service for 30 or more cumulative days. You do not need to hit the 18-month/18,000-mile presumption in Civil Code §1793.22 — that is a shortcut, not a requirement, and most winning cases fall outside it.

My Blazer EV keeps having the same problem after a recall repair. Does that matter?
It matters a lot. The Blazer EV is subject to two separate parking-brake recalls — GM had to come back and address the same system again. A repeat recall of the same component is strong evidence the first repair failed, which is the core of a lemon law claim.
My Silverado has the 6.2L V8 engine failure. What are my options?
GM recalled roughly 600,000 vehicles over that engine. If yours failed, was replaced, or is still knocking after repairs, you may be entitled to a buyback, a replacement, or a cash settlement. Engine failure is a textbook substantial defect.
I was told to park my Bolt outside and limit charging. Is that a lemon?
Those instructions are GM conceding, in writing, that the vehicle is not safe to use normally. An EV you cannot fully charge and cannot park in your garage has had its use, value and safety substantially impaired. You do not need a stack of repair orders to make that point.
