You have the right to challenge a denial or a lowball offer. California law requires insurers to investigate promptly, explain any denial in writing, and pay what they owe under your policy. We review your policy, get an independent estimate of your loss, and hold the carrier to its obligations. When an insurer unreasonably denies, delays, or underpays a valid claim, you may be entitled to more than the policy amount.
Should I hire an attorney or a public adjuster?
A public adjuster can help estimate your loss, but only an attorney can file suit and pursue additional damages when an insurer acts in bad faith. If your carrier is cooperating, an adjuster may be enough. If it's denying, delaying, or lowballing you, a lawyer gives you leverage a public adjuster legally can't offer.
What does it cost to hire you for a property claim?

My water damage claim was denied as 'gradual.' Is that the end of it?
Not necessarily. Most homeowner policies cover sudden and accidental water damage (like a burst pipe) but exclude long-term seepage. Insurers often mislabel a covered sudden loss as excluded 'gradual' damage. A cause-and-origin expert can establish what actually happened, and we use that to challenge an improper denial. Note that flood is different—it's excluded from standard policies and requires separate flood coverage.
How long do I have to file a property insurance claim in California?
Deadlines depend on your policy and the type of loss. Many policies set a limitations period for filing suit, and California has extended certain deadlines for major wildfire losses. Because these deadlines can be short and are easy to miss, you should have your policy reviewed as soon as possible after a loss.
The house didn't burn down, but there's smoke and ash. Is that covered?
Yes—smoke, soot, and ash contamination is a covered physical loss under most homeowner policies even when the structure did not burn. Insurers frequently deny these claims by arguing there's 'no physical damage.' We document the contamination separately and hold the carrier to the policy.
