Is My Porsche a Lemon?
In plain terms: your Porsche is a lemon if it has a substantial defect covered by the warranty that Porsche Cars North America, Inc. can't fix after a reasonable number of attempts — or if it's been out of service for 30 or more cumulative days. If that sounds like your vehicle, you may be owed a buyback, a replacement, or a cash settlement, and Porsche pays the legal fees.
Porsche buyers are the most likely of anyone to be told their problem is a feature. A shuddering PDK is “race-derived engagement.” A Taycan that will not charge is “still learning your habits.” California’s Lemon Law does not recognize any of it. The statute asks whether a substantial defect impairs the vehicle’s use, value or safety — and a $150,000 car that cannot be relied upon to start fails that test no matter how well it corners.
Your Porsche may qualify if a substantial, warranty-covered defect survives a reasonable number of repair attempts, or if the vehicle has been out of service for 30 or more cumulative days. That 30-day rule is where Porsche cases are frequently won: parts wait times are long, specialist technicians are scarce, and days accumulate quickly. One point in Porsche owners’ favor: Porsche Cars North America has NOT opted into California’s AB 1755 procedures. That means the traditional four-year statute of limitations applies, and it runs from when you discovered — or reasonably should have discovered — the defect, not from the date you bought the car. That is a meaningfully longer window than owners of GM, Ford, Stellantis, Hyundai or Kia vehicles get. It is not unlimited, but you likely have more time than you think.

How California's Lemon Law Works for Your Porsche
California's Lemon Law (the Song-Beverly Act) protects you when a new, leased, or certified pre-owned Porsche has a substantial defect that the manufacturer or dealer can't repair after a reasonable number of attempts — or when it's been out of service for 30 or more cumulative days.

How long do I have to bring a Porsche claim in California?
Longer than owners of many other brands. Porsche has not opted into California’s AB 1755 procedures, so the traditional four-year statute of limitations applies, running from when you discovered or should have discovered the defect. Owners of GM, Ford or Stellantis vehicles face a far shorter window.
My Taycan keeps losing power or failing to charge. Do I have a case?
Quite possibly a strong one. The 2024 Taycan is subject to three separate electrical-system recalls. When Porsche has to recall the same system three times, it is conceding that its earlier fixes did not work — and an EV that cannot be relied upon to charge or drive is an EV whose use has been substantially impaired.
The dealer says this is just how a PDK behaves. Is that true?
It is not a legal answer. California’s Lemon Law has no sports-car exception. If the defect is substantial and Porsche cannot repair it after a reasonable number of attempts, the brand’s performance reputation is irrelevant to your rights.
My Porsche has been waiting on parts for weeks. Does that count?
It counts, and it may decide the case. California asks whether the vehicle was out of service 30 or more cumulative days for warranty repair — not why. Days spent waiting on a part still count.
