McLaren 570S Lemon Law

The McLaren 570S is the brand's Sports Series everyday supercar — and it was recalled for a brake defect that can cause the brakes to fail on one corner. Related Sports Series cars have also faced fuel-tank corrosion. If a repair doesn't resolve the problem, your 570S may qualify as a California lemon.

The Defect

The 570S brake and fuel-tank problems

McLaren recalled 2020 570S vehicles (NHTSA 21V561000, alongside the GT, 600LT, and 720S) because the brake-assembly banjo bolt could be missing the drilled holes that feed brake fluid to the caliper. Without that fluid path the brakes can fail on one corner of the car, causing it to pull to one side under braking and raising the risk of a crash. Dealers inspect and replace the banjo bolt as needed.

McLaren's Sports Series cars have also been associated with the fuel-tank corrosion issue, where an NVH foam pad under the aluminum tank can trap moisture, corrode the tank, and lead to a fuel leak with an elevated fire risk. Owners who smell fuel or see leaks should have the car inspected promptly.

A recall is McLaren offering a free repair — it isn't automatically a lemon. But if the fix doesn't hold, the same brake, fuel, electrical, or drivetrain fault keeps recurring, or your 570S is out of service for an extended time, California's Lemon Law may entitle you to a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement, with McLaren paying your attorney fees.

Known Issues

Commonly Reported McLaren 570S Problems

Brake failure on one corner (missing banjo-bolt fluid holes)
Car pulling to one side under braking
Fuel smell or leak from tank corrosion on affected Sports Series cars
Fire risk from leaking fuel near hot components
Repeat repairs or extended downtime for the same defect

Not every McLaren 570S is affected. Any substantial, warranty-covered defect that can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts — or that keeps your vehicle out of service — may support a claim.

Your Rights

Is Your McLaren 570S a Lemon?

A recall is not automatically a lemon — it's the manufacturer acknowledging a defect and offering a free repair. California's Lemon Law (the Song-Beverly Act) comes into play when a substantial defect can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts, or when your 570S has been out of service for 30 or more cumulative days.

If your McLaren 570S qualifies, you may be entitled to a buyback (a refund of what you've paid, minus a mileage offset), a replacement vehicle, or a cash-and-keep settlement — and McLaren pays your attorney fees on a successful claim, so pursuing your case costs you nothing out of pocket.

Common Questions

McLaren 570S Lemon Law FAQs

Is the McLaren 570S brake recall a California lemon law issue?

It can be. The 570S was recalled for brakes that can fail on one corner (NHTSA 21V561000), and Sports Series cars have also faced fuel-tank corrosion. A recall alone isn't a lemon — but if the repair doesn't fix the problem, it recurs, or your 570S is out of service for an extended time, you may be entitled to a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement, with McLaren paying your attorney fees.

My 570S is older now — can it still qualify?

It depends on your warranty and repair history. Lemon law claims are strongest when the defect first arose and was reported during the manufacturer's warranty period. If your 570S had a substantial defect that the dealer couldn't fix under warranty, it may still qualify even years later. A free case review is the fastest way to find out — save every repair order.

What can I recover for a defective 570S?

Potentially a buyback (a refund of what you've paid, minus a mileage offset), a replacement, or a cash-and-keep settlement — plus your attorney fees paid by McLaren, at no cost to you.
