Lexus IS Lemon Law
Talk to a Lexus lemon law attorney — your Lexus IS may qualify for a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement.
If your Lexus IS has stalled, run rough, or refused to start, a defective fuel pump may be the cause — and paired with an aging infotainment system and electrical gremlins, it can add up to a real problem. When Lexus can't fix it, your IS may qualify as a California lemon.
The IS fuel pump stalling problem
The IS's most notable recent defect is its low-pressure fuel pump. Lexus recalled the 2022 IS (as part of NHTSA campaign 26V222, which also covered certain RC and GS models) after finding that the pump's resin impeller can swell when exposed to high fuel temperatures and certain fuel blends. A swollen impeller can bind against surrounding parts and cause the pump to fail, which may trigger warning lights, a no-start, or a stall — and a stall at higher speed is a serious crash risk.
IS owners report other issues that can support a lemon claim as well: an aging infotainment and navigation setup that can freeze, lag, or lose Bluetooth, touchpad and control-interface frustrations, climate-control and A/C problems, and assorted electrical and sensor faults that set off dashboard warnings. On a sport sedan marketed for its refinement, defects the dealer can't cure after repeated visits are exactly what the Lemon Law is meant to address.
California's Lemon Law evaluates your specific IS, not the brand's overall track record. If a warranty-covered defect substantially impairs the car's use, value, or safety and isn't repaired after a reasonable number of attempts — or the IS is out of service for an unreasonable amount of time — you may be entitled to a buyback, a replacement, or a cash settlement, with Lexus paying your attorney fees. A recall repair that doesn't hold often supports a claim.
Commonly Reported Lexus IS Problems
Not every Lexus IS is affected. Any substantial, warranty-covered defect that can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts — or that keeps your vehicle out of service — may support a claim.
Is Your Lexus IS a Lemon?
A recall is not automatically a lemon — it's the manufacturer acknowledging a defect and offering a free repair. California's Lemon Law (the Song-Beverly Act) comes into play when a substantial defect can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts, or when your IS has been out of service for 30 or more cumulative days.
If your Lexus IS qualifies, you may be entitled to a buyback (a refund of what you've paid, minus a mileage offset), a replacement vehicle, or a cash-and-keep settlement — and Lexus pays your attorney fees on a successful claim, so pursuing your case costs you nothing out of pocket.

Is the Lexus IS fuel pump problem covered by California's Lemon Law?
It can be. The fuel-pump defect that causes stalling was recalled (NHTSA 26V222), but a recall alone isn't a lemon. If the replacement pump doesn't solve the problem, the stalling or no-start returns, or your IS is out of service for an extended time, you may be entitled to a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement under California's Lemon Law — with Lexus paying your attorney fees.
My IS stalled in traffic — what should I do?
A stall while driving is a serious safety defect. Have the fuel-pump recall repair performed, keep every repair order, and record each date the car was in the shop or unusable. If the fix doesn't hold or the problem recurs, get a free case review — your IS may qualify as a lemon.
What can I recover for a defective IS?
Potentially a buyback (a refund of what you've paid, minus a mileage offset), a replacement vehicle, or a cash-and-keep settlement — plus your attorney fees paid by Lexus. There's no cost to you to pursue a claim.
