Kia Telluride Lemon Law
If your Kia Telluride was recalled for a fire risk — from the tow-hitch wiring or the power front seat — with a warning to park outside, you shouldn't have to worry about your family SUV. If it can't be fixed, your Telluride may qualify as a California lemon.
The Kia Telluride fire recalls
Kia recalled 2020–2022 Telluride SUVs because an accessory tow-hitch harness can let moisture in and short out, causing a fire while driving or even while parked and off — owners were told to park outside until repaired. Kia issued a separate recall for 2020–2024 Tellurides because the power front-seat motor can overheat and cause a fire, again with a park-outside warning.
Being told to park a family SUV outdoors, away from your home, is a real loss of use — and fire risks like these are exactly what the Lemon Law takes seriously.
A recall isn't automatically a lemon. But when a fire-risk repair is delayed or doesn't hold, or your Telluride is out of service (or restricted to parking outside) for an extended time, California's Lemon Law may entitle you to a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement — with Kia paying your attorney fees.
Commonly Reported Kia Telluride Problems
Not every Kia Telluride is affected. Any substantial, warranty-covered defect that can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts — or that keeps your vehicle out of service — may support a claim.
Is Your Kia Telluride a Lemon?
A recall is not automatically a lemon — it's the manufacturer acknowledging a defect and offering a free repair. California's Lemon Law (the Song-Beverly Act) comes into play when a substantial defect can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts, or when your Telluride has been out of service for 30 or more cumulative days.
If your Kia Telluride qualifies, you may be entitled to a buyback (a refund of what you've paid, minus a mileage offset), a replacement vehicle, or a cash-and-keep settlement — and Kia pays your attorney fees on a successful claim, so pursuing your case costs you nothing out of pocket.

Was the Kia Telluride recalled for a fire risk?
Yes — twice. Kia recalled 2020–2022 Tellurides for a tow-hitch harness that can short and cause a fire, and 2020–2024 Tellurides for a power front-seat motor that can overheat. Both came with a park-outside warning. Confirm your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Being told to park my Telluride outside — does that help a claim?
It can. Not being able to safely park in your garage is a real loss of use. If the fire-risk repair is delayed, doesn't hold, or your Telluride has other unrepaired defects, you may have a California lemon law claim, with Kia paying your attorney fees.
What can I recover for a defective Telluride?
Potentially a buyback (a refund minus a mileage offset), a replacement, or a cash-and-keep settlement — plus your attorney fees paid by Kia, at no cost to you.
