Land Rover Range Rover Lemon Law

If your Land Rover Range Rover has lost drive power, or suffers electrical and air-suspension faults, you shouldn't have to accept it in a flagship luxury SUV. The loss-of-power defect was recalled — and if it can't be fixed, your Range Rover may qualify as a California lemon.

The Defect

The Range Rover loss-of-power and electrical problems

The Range Rover is part of the Jaguar Land Rover mild-hybrid recall for a DC-DC converter that can fail and cause a loss of 12-volt charging — leading to a loss of drive power and exterior lighting. A vehicle that can lose power while driving is a serious safety concern, and a final remedy was still being developed when the recall was announced.

The Range Rover is also prone to air (dynamic) suspension failures, electrical and infotainment glitches, and software faults that owners of a six-figure SUV shouldn't have to tolerate.

A recall isn't automatically a lemon. But loss of power and suspension failures are serious defects, and if the problem can't be repaired after a reasonable number of attempts, or your Range Rover is out of service for an extended time, California's Lemon Law may entitle you to a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement — with the manufacturer paying your attorney fees.

Known Issues

Commonly Reported Land Rover Range Rover Problems

Loss of drive power from a mild-hybrid DC-DC converter fault — subject to recall
Air (dynamic) suspension leaks, sagging, and compressor failure
Electrical and infotainment glitches
Software faults and warning lights
Repeat repairs that don't resolve the problem

Not every Land Rover Range Rover is affected. Any substantial, warranty-covered defect that can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts — or that keeps your vehicle out of service — may support a claim.

Your Rights

Is Your Land Rover Range Rover a Lemon?

A recall is not automatically a lemon — it's the manufacturer acknowledging a defect and offering a free repair. California's Lemon Law (the Song-Beverly Act) comes into play when a substantial defect can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts, or when your Range Rover has been out of service for 30 or more cumulative days.

If your Land Rover Range Rover qualifies, you may be entitled to a buyback (a refund of what you've paid, minus a mileage offset), a replacement vehicle, or a cash-and-keep settlement — and Land Rover pays your attorney fees on a successful claim, so pursuing your case costs you nothing out of pocket.

Common Questions

Land Rover Range Rover Lemon Law FAQs

Was my Range Rover recalled for losing power?

If it's in the affected mild-hybrid range, likely yes — the Range Rover is part of the JLR recall (NHTSA 26V248000) for a DC-DC converter that can fail and cause a loss of drive power. Confirm your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is a recurring Range Rover defect a lemon?

It can be. Loss of power or air-suspension failure is a serious defect. If it can't be repaired after a reasonable number of attempts, or your Range Rover is out of service for an extended time, you may have a California lemon law claim, with the manufacturer paying your attorney fees.

What can I recover for a defective Range Rover?

Potentially a buyback (a refund minus a mileage offset), a replacement, or a cash-and-keep settlement — plus your attorney fees paid by the manufacturer, at no cost to you.
