Land Rover Discovery Lemon Law

The Discovery rides on a four-corner electronic air suspension, and it is the component owners complain about most. Air springs crack and lose pressure, the compressor overworks and fails, and height sensors send bad data — leaving the vehicle sitting low or lopsided, displaying "suspension fault" messages, and sometimes refusing to raise to normal ride height. A dead compressor can leave the Discovery undrivable until it is towed and repaired.

The Ingenium engine family adds its own recurring trouble. Owners report external oil leaks and increased oil consumption, and the cooling system is a known weak point — coolant pipes, elbows, pumps, and radiators can leak, triggering overheating warnings. On some engines a lost coolant pump drive can cause rapid overheating, which is exactly the kind of safety issue regulators watch closely.

None of these are cosmetic. Air-suspension collapse affects how the vehicle drives, and coolant loss can lead to overheating and engine damage. A recall or warranty repair is only the starting point: if Land Rover replaces the same air spring, sensor, or coolant part more than once, the fault keeps returning, or your Discovery sits at the dealer waiting on backordered parts, California's Lemon Law may entitle you to a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement.

A recall is not automatically a lemon — it's the manufacturer acknowledging a defect and offering a free repair. California's Lemon Law (the Song-Beverly Act) comes into play when a substantial defect can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts, or when your Discovery has been out of service for 30 or more cumulative days.
