Chevrolet Blazer EV Lemon Law

If your Chevrolet Blazer EV has frozen or blank screens, charging failures, or has been recalled for the parking brake or a suspension defect, you're not alone — GM even halted sales over the Blazer EV's software bugs. If it can't be fixed, your Blazer EV may qualify as a California lemon.

The Defect

The Chevy Blazer EV software and recall problems

Weeks after launch, GM paused sales of the 2024 Blazer EV for about 11 weeks because early owners reported serious software bugs — frozen or blank infotainment screens, error messages, and trouble charging at DC fast chargers. GM rolled out a full-vehicle software update and had dealers reflash essentially every control module, which resolved the worst bugs for many owners, though glitches have continued to surface.

The Blazer EV has also been recalled for hardware: a rear parking-brake wiring harness that can be damaged or corroded, causing unintended parking-brake activation or loss of the parking brake, and (on certain 2024 models) a right front lower control arm that can fracture.

A recall or software patch isn't automatically a lemon. But when the software problems keep returning after updates, a safety recall repair doesn't hold, or your Blazer EV spends significant time out of service, California's Lemon Law may entitle you to a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement — with GM paying your attorney fees.

Known Issues

Commonly Reported Chevrolet Blazer EV Problems

Frozen or blank infotainment screens and error messages (led to an 11-week stop-sale)
DC fast-charging failures and charging handshake issues
Rear parking-brake wiring harness — unintended activation or loss of parking brake (recall)
Right front lower control arm fracture (certain 2024, recall)
Software glitches that recur after over-the-air or dealer updates

Not every Chevrolet Blazer EV is affected. Any substantial, warranty-covered defect that can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts — or that keeps your vehicle out of service — may support a claim.

Your Rights

Is Your Chevrolet Blazer EV a Lemon?

A recall is not automatically a lemon — it's the manufacturer acknowledging a defect and offering a free repair. California's Lemon Law (the Song-Beverly Act) comes into play when a substantial defect can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts, or when your Blazer EV has been out of service for 30 or more cumulative days.

If your Chevrolet Blazer EV qualifies, you may be entitled to a buyback (a refund of what you've paid, minus a mileage offset), a replacement vehicle, or a cash-and-keep settlement — and Chevrolet pays your attorney fees on a successful claim, so pursuing your case costs you nothing out of pocket.

Common Questions

Chevrolet Blazer EV Lemon Law FAQs

Did GM really stop selling the Blazer EV over software?

Yes. GM paused Blazer EV sales for about 11 weeks in 2023–2024 because of software bugs — blank screens, error messages, and charging problems — then issued a full-vehicle software update. Some owners still report lingering glitches.

Are recurring Blazer EV software or recall problems a lemon?

They can be. If the same substantial defect keeps returning after updates and repairs, or your Blazer EV is out of service for an extended time, you may have a California lemon law claim for a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement, with GM paying your attorney fees.

What can I recover for a defective Blazer EV?

Potentially a buyback (a refund minus a mileage offset), a replacement, or a cash-and-keep settlement — plus your attorney fees paid by GM, at no cost to you.
