Cadillac CT4 Lemon Law
Talk to a Cadillac lemon law attorney — your Cadillac CT4 may qualify for a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement.
If your Cadillac CT4 shifts harshly, warns of a transmission problem, or has had brake or electrical faults the dealer can't seem to fix, you're not imagining it — these are documented CT4 complaints. When repairs don't hold after a fair number of tries, your CT4 may qualify as a California lemon.
The CT4 10-speed transmission problem
The CT4's 10-speed automatic transmission is behind one of the model's most serious defects. Certain 2020–2021 CT4s were recalled because a transmission control valve can wear over time and lose pressure, causing harsh shifting and, in rare cases, a momentary lock-up of the front wheels while driving — a clear safety hazard. The recall remedy is a software update that watches for wear and, if it's detected, limits the car to fifth gear and turns on a warning light rather than replacing the transmission.
The CT4 has also drawn complaints beyond the transmission. Owners and safety databases report issues concentrated in the steering, brakes, and engine, and a separate recall covered certain 2020 CT4s whose electronic brake boost system could lose communication, requiring extra pedal force to stop. Electrical and electronics faults show up as well, and they can be as disruptive as a mechanical failure when they keep recurring.
California's Lemon Law can apply to any of these defects, not just the recalled ones. If a substantial problem keeps returning after a reasonable number of repair attempts, or your CT4 spends an extended time out of service, Cadillac may owe you a buyback, a replacement, or a cash settlement — with your attorney fees paid by the manufacturer. And when a recall remedy simply caps performance instead of restoring the car, that can itself point to a lemon.
Commonly Reported Cadillac CT4 Problems
Not every Cadillac CT4 is affected. Any substantial, warranty-covered defect that can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts — or that keeps your vehicle out of service — may support a claim.
Is Your Cadillac CT4 a Lemon?
A recall is not automatically a lemon — it's the manufacturer acknowledging a defect and offering a free repair. California's Lemon Law (the Song-Beverly Act) comes into play when a substantial defect can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts, or when your CT4 has been out of service for 30 or more cumulative days.
If your Cadillac CT4 qualifies, you may be entitled to a buyback (a refund of what you've paid, minus a mileage offset), a replacement vehicle, or a cash-and-keep settlement — and Cadillac pays your attorney fees on a successful claim, so pursuing your case costs you nothing out of pocket.

Is the Cadillac CT4 transmission problem covered by California's Lemon Law?
It can be. Harsh shifting and a possible wheel lock-up are serious safety defects, and a recall alone isn't automatically a lemon. If the fix doesn't resolve the problem, only limits the car to fifth gear, or the issue keeps recurring, you may be entitled to a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement, with Cadillac paying your attorney fees.
The recall software limited my CT4 to fifth gear — is that a real fix?
That remedy caps the transmission rather than restoring full performance, and many owners don't consider a car that can no longer use all its gears to be truly repaired. If your CT4's problem persists or the fix leaves you with a degraded vehicle, it may qualify as a lemon. Keep your repair records and get a free case review.
What can I recover for a defective CT4?
Potentially a buyback (a refund of what you've paid, minus a mileage offset), a replacement vehicle, or a cash-and-keep settlement — plus your attorney fees paid by Cadillac. There's no cost to you to pursue a claim.
