Hyundai Ioniq 6 Lemon Law

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is built on the same E-GMP platform as the Ioniq 5 — and it can suffer the same Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failure that triggers a "Power Limited" warning and robs the car of power. If the repair doesn't hold, your Ioniq 6 may qualify as a California lemon.

The Defect

The Ioniq 6 ICCU failure problem

The Ioniq 6's Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) runs DC and AC charging and keeps the 12-volt battery charged. Like its Ioniq 5 sibling, it can fail from overvoltage during the 12-volt charging cycle and from thermal loading — leaving the 12-volt system unable to stay charged.

The result is usually a "Power Limited" warning followed by a steady loss of drive power until the sedan won't move, plus possible no-charge and no-start conditions. For a car marketed on its range and efficiency, being stranded is a serious failure of the basic promise.

Affected Ioniq 6 vehicles fall under Hyundai's ICCU recall campaign (NHTSA 24V204) for inspection and replacement of the ICCU and fuse and a software update. When the fix doesn't resolve it, the problem returns, or parts are backordered for weeks, California's Lemon Law may apply.

Known Issues

Commonly Reported Hyundai Ioniq 6 Problems

"Power Limited" warning and progressive loss of drive power
Vehicle becomes undrivable and needs a tow
12-volt battery won't charge; no-start conditions
AC/DC charging failures
Repeat ICCU failure after the recall repair, or long part delays

Not every Hyundai Ioniq 6 is affected. Any substantial, warranty-covered defect that can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts — or that keeps your vehicle out of service — may support a claim.

Your Rights

Is Your Hyundai Ioniq 6 a Lemon?

A recall is not automatically a lemon — it's the manufacturer acknowledging a defect and offering a free repair. California's Lemon Law (the Song-Beverly Act) comes into play when a substantial defect can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts, or when your Ioniq 6 has been out of service for 30 or more cumulative days.

If your Hyundai Ioniq 6 qualifies, you may be entitled to a buyback (a refund of what you've paid, minus a mileage offset), a replacement vehicle, or a cash-and-keep settlement — and Hyundai pays your attorney fees on a successful claim, so pursuing your case costs you nothing out of pocket.

Common Questions

Hyundai Ioniq 6 Lemon Law FAQs

Does the Ioniq 6 have the same ICCU problem as the Ioniq 5?

Yes. The Ioniq 6 shares the E-GMP platform and the same Integrated Charging Control Unit, so it can suffer the same power-loss failure. It's part of Hyundai's ICCU recall (NHTSA 24V204).

Is my Ioniq 6 a California lemon if the ICCU keeps failing?

It may be. If the recall repair doesn't fix the problem, the failure recurs, or your Ioniq 6 is out of service for an extended time, you may be entitled to a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement under California's Lemon Law, with Hyundai paying your attorney fees.

What will a lemon law case cost me?

Nothing out of pocket. Hyundai pays your attorney fees on a successful claim, so you can pursue a buyback or replacement without paying upfront.
