Mitsubishi Mirage Lemon Law
Talk to a Mitsubishi lemon law attorney — your Mitsubishi Mirage may qualify for a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement.
If your Mitsubishi Mirage's little three-cylinder engine strains and stumbles, the CVT feels rough, or a warning light won't clear, and the dealer keeps sending you back unfixed, your Mirage may qualify as a California lemon.
Mirage engine, CVT, and safety-electronics trouble
The Mirage is powered by a small 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine paired with a CVT, and its powertrain draws frequent complaints. Owners report an underpowered, straining engine, engine noise and vibration, hesitation and rough behavior from the CVT, and difficulty shifting or accelerating — particularly as mileage climbs. When the engine or transmission can't be made to run right after repeated repair visits, that pattern points toward a lemon.
Mitsubishi has also issued safety-related recalls on the Mirage. Certain 2014–2018 Mirage vehicles were recalled because an acceleration sensor in the SRS (airbag) electronic control unit could misread ordinary road vibrations as an error and disable the airbags. Separately, certain 2014–2015 Mirage vehicles were recalled because water and salt could soak through the carpet and corrode a wiring connector in a junction box. Both involve the car's electronics and both can leave you back at the dealer.
California's Lemon Law covers far more than any one recall. If your Mirage has been in for the same engine, transmission, or electrical problem several times without a lasting fix, or has been out of service for an extended period, it may qualify — even where the specific complaint was never recalled. A qualifying claim can entitle you to a buyback, a replacement, or a cash settlement, with Mitsubishi paying your attorney fees.
Commonly Reported Mitsubishi Mirage Problems
Not every Mitsubishi Mirage is affected. Any substantial, warranty-covered defect that can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts — or that keeps your vehicle out of service — may support a claim.
Is Your Mitsubishi Mirage a Lemon?
A recall is not automatically a lemon — it's the manufacturer acknowledging a defect and offering a free repair. California's Lemon Law (the Song-Beverly Act) comes into play when a substantial defect can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts, or when your Mirage has been out of service for 30 or more cumulative days.
If your Mitsubishi Mirage qualifies, you may be entitled to a buyback (a refund of what you've paid, minus a mileage offset), a replacement vehicle, or a cash-and-keep settlement — and Mitsubishi pays your attorney fees on a successful claim, so pursuing your case costs you nothing out of pocket.

Is my Mitsubishi Mirage's engine or CVT problem a lemon?
It can be. If the engine strains, stalls, or the CVT stays rough and the dealer can't fix it after a reasonable number of attempts, or your Mirage is out of service for an extended time, you may be entitled to a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement — with Mitsubishi paying your attorney fees. A recall isn't required to qualify.
My Mirage was recalled for the airbags — does that help my claim?
It can. Certain 2014–2018 Mirage vehicles were recalled because the SRS control unit could disable the airbags, and a wiring-corrosion recall affected certain 2014–2015 cars. A recall shows a known defect, but it's the repeated, unrepaired failure that makes a car a lemon. Keep your repair records and get a free case review.
How much does a Mirage lemon law case cost me?
Nothing out of pocket. Under California's Lemon Law, Mitsubishi pays your attorney fees on a successful claim, so you can pursue a buyback or replacement without paying upfront.
