Lucid Air Lemon Law
If your Lucid Air has suddenly lost drive power, or its windshield won't defrost, you're dealing with defects Lucid has recalled. If the fix doesn't hold, your Air may qualify as a California lemon.
Lucid Air power-loss and defrost problems
Lucid recalled model year 2022–2023 Air sedans (built before December 2022) because a High Voltage Interlock (HVIL) software fault could disconnect the high-voltage contactors while the vehicle is in motion, causing a sudden loss of drive power in Drive or Reverse — a serious crash risk. The remedy is a software update.
In a separate recall, Lucid identified Air sedans whose high-voltage coolant heater could fail to defrost the windshield, reducing the driver's visibility. Owners also report software and infotainment glitches on a vehicle that competes at the luxury end of the market.
A recall isn't automatically a lemon. But loss of drive power and impaired visibility are serious safety defects, and if the fix doesn't hold, the problem recurs, or your Air is out of service for an extended time, California's Lemon Law may entitle you to a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement — with Lucid paying your attorney fees.
Commonly Reported Lucid Air Problems
Not every Lucid Air is affected. Any substantial, warranty-covered defect that can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts — or that keeps your vehicle out of service — may support a claim.
Is Your Lucid Air a Lemon?
A recall is not automatically a lemon — it's the manufacturer acknowledging a defect and offering a free repair. California's Lemon Law (the Song-Beverly Act) comes into play when a substantial defect can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts, or when your Air has been out of service for 30 or more cumulative days.
If your Lucid Air qualifies, you may be entitled to a buyback (a refund of what you've paid, minus a mileage offset), a replacement vehicle, or a cash-and-keep settlement — and Lucid pays your attorney fees on a successful claim, so pursuing your case costs you nothing out of pocket.

Was the Lucid Air recalled for losing power?
Yes. Lucid recalled 2022–2023 Air sedans built before December 2022 because an HVIL software fault could disconnect the high-voltage contactors while driving, causing a sudden loss of drive power. The remedy is a software update. Confirm your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
My Lucid Air keeps losing power or won't defrost — is it a lemon?
It may be. Loss of drive power and impaired visibility are serious safety defects. If the recall fix doesn't hold, the problem recurs, or your Air is out of service for an extended time, you may have a California lemon law claim for a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement, with Lucid paying your attorney fees.
What can I recover for a defective Lucid Air?
Potentially a buyback (a refund minus a mileage offset), a replacement, or a cash-and-keep settlement — plus your attorney fees paid by Lucid, at no cost to you.
