Acura ZDX Lemon Law

Talk to a Acura lemon law attorney — your Acura ZDX may qualify for a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement.

If your Acura ZDX has cut braking power, gone blank on the instrument panel or backup camera, or thrown charging and software faults, you're not imagining it — this EV has drawn several recalls. When repairs don't hold, your ZDX may qualify as a California lemon.

The Defect

The ZDX software, braking, and charging problems

The ZDX is Acura's first mainstream EV, built on General Motors' Ultium platform at a GM plant, and its most serious defect is a braking-software fault. Acura recalled ZDX A-Spec AWD and ZDX Type S vehicles over electronic brake control module software that could cause a loss of braking power at low speed — a clear safety concern that was addressed by a software update. The ZDX and its Honda Prologue twin were also recalled under NHTSA campaign 26V112000 for display-screen software that can cause the instrument panel to go dark and the rearview camera to show a blank image in reverse.

Beyond the recalls, ZDX owners in the early production run report the kinds of teething problems common to a brand-new EV: charging sessions that stop or won't start, software and infotainment glitches, warning-light cascades, and other electrical faults. Because so much of the car is controlled by software, a bug can knock out several systems at once.

A recall or software fault doesn't automatically make your ZDX a lemon — but California's Lemon Law may. If a substantial problem such as unreliable braking, a dark display, or persistent charging and software faults keeps returning after a reasonable number of repair attempts, or your ZDX is out of service for an extended time, Acura may owe you a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement, and it pays your attorney fees.

Known Issues

Commonly Reported Acura ZDX Problems

Loss of braking power at low speed (subject to a brake-software recall)
Instrument panel going dark and rearview camera showing a blank image (recall 26V112000)
Charging sessions that stop, fail to start, or won't complete
Software and infotainment glitches and warning-light cascades
Repeat repair or software-update visits that never permanently fix the problem

Not every Acura ZDX is affected. Any substantial, warranty-covered defect that can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts — or that keeps your vehicle out of service — may support a claim.

Your Rights

Is Your Acura ZDX a Lemon?

A recall is not automatically a lemon — it's the manufacturer acknowledging a defect and offering a free repair. California's Lemon Law (the Song-Beverly Act) comes into play when a substantial defect can't be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts, or when your ZDX has been out of service for 30 or more cumulative days.

If your Acura ZDX qualifies, you may be entitled to a buyback (a refund of what you've paid, minus a mileage offset), a replacement vehicle, or a cash-and-keep settlement — and Acura pays your attorney fees on a successful claim, so pursuing your case costs you nothing out of pocket.

Common Questions

Acura ZDX Lemon Law FAQs

Is my Acura ZDX a lemon if it was recalled for the braking or display software?

Not automatically. A recall means a defect was found and a free fix is offered. But if the braking, display, or charging problem persists after the recall repair, keeps recurring, or leaves your ZDX out of service for an extended time, it can support a California lemon claim — a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement, with Acura paying your attorney fees.

My ZDX keeps having charging and software problems. Does that qualify?

It can. Persistent charging failures and software faults that keep coming back after repair are substantial defects, especially on an EV where software controls so many systems. Keep every repair order and service record and get a free case review to see whether your ZDX qualifies.

What can I recover for a defective ZDX?

Potentially a buyback (a refund of what you've paid, minus a mileage offset), a replacement vehicle, or a cash-and-keep settlement — plus your attorney fees paid by Acura. There's no cost to you to pursue a claim.
