Ram 1500 Rearview Camera Recall (83D): Your California Lemon Law Rights

By Arvin MousaviPublished October 6, 20266 min read

Recall 26V560000 (Chrysler reference 83D) covers 239,131 model-year 2025 and 2026 Ram 1500 pickups whose radio software error may cause the rearview camera image not to display. NHTSA records the vehicles as failing to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111 (rear visibility) and notes the increased crash risk from a reduced view behind the truck.

What the recall covers

Stellantis filed recall 26V560000 on September 1, 2026, covering 239,131 Ram 1500 pickups from model years 2025 and 2026. It sits alongside the larger 26V531000 campaign — a rearview camera recall on 844,027 Stellantis vehicles — which we covered earlier. Ram 1500 owners should check both, since a 2026 truck may appear under each.

What actually goes wrong

A radio software error may cause the rearview camera image not to display when the truck is put in reverse. NHTSA records a noncompliance with FMVSS 111 — the rear-visibility standard that has required a camera view since 2018. On a full-size pickup, the camera is the main way a driver sees small children or objects directly behind the tailgate, so a blank screen is a real loss.

What the fix is

The radio software will be updated over the air or by a dealer, free of charge. If it arrives over the air, nothing in your hands records it. That is the central paperwork problem for software recalls: you cannot later prove a defect was present, or that it was fixed, without a record. Save a screenshot of the system information and the date.

Does this make a Ram a lemon?

A rearview camera that works after a software update is rarely a lemon law case on its own, and we would rather say so plainly. Ram 1500 owners with a stronger position are those whose camera or Uconnect screen keeps failing after the update, who have had repeated visits for the same radio or electrical fault, or whose truck has spent 30 or more cumulative days in the shop. Because a missing camera image is a safety-equipment failure, the shorter safety-defect repair standard may apply.

How a California buyback works

Under California's Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, a vehicle may qualify as a lemon if it has a warranty-covered defect that substantially impairs its use, value or safety and Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) or its authorized dealers cannot repair it after a reasonable number of attempts — or if it has been out of service for warranty repairs for more than 30 cumulative days. A defect likely to cause death or serious bodily injury if the vehicle is driven is held to a shorter standard: at least two repair attempts rather than four. If a claim succeeds, the manufacturer pays your attorney fees, so a consultation costs nothing out of pocket. Time limits apply and they depend on the vehicle and the manufacturer, so it is worth asking early rather than late.

Beyond the recall: Is my Ram 1500 a lemon?

Ram 1500 owners report Uconnect freezes and reboots, air-suspension faults, electrical issues and driver-assist warnings. Two Stellantis camera recalls on the same truck in a few weeks is worth noting. Keep a record of every software and dealer visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Ram trucks does recall 26V560000 cover?

239,131 model-year 2025 and 2026 Ram 1500 pickups with the radio software error.

Is a rearview camera software recall enough for a lemon law claim?

Usually not alone. It becomes meaningful if the camera or screen fails again after the update, or the truck has multiple unresolved defects and repeated repair visits.

Will an over-the-air fix leave a record?

Often not. Screenshot the software version and update date, and ask the dealer to confirm the campaign is closed on your VIN.
